Ethiopia doesn’t produce Cocoa, but we are connected to this Sacred plant through our Cocoa Ceremonies and not only.

History of Coffee

Kaffa Region in Ethiopia

According to one legend, ancestors of today's Oromo people in a region of Kaffa in Ethiopia were the first to recognize the energizing effect of the coffee plant

Coffee Ceremony

This is a famous tree in Ethiopia. It's called Ambabessa. All villages disputes in Oromo Region, are heard under this tree by the villagers, and resolved in a peaceful manner. It is like a kind of a court but without any human authority. Instead, disputes are heard and with open mind they are peacefully resolved. What starts and ends on these disputes is the Ceremony of Coffee.

History of Cocoa

Cocoa or Cacao tree

The cacao tree is native to Mexico. It was first domesticated 5,300 years ago, in equatorial South America, before being domesticated in Central America by the Olmecs (Mexico). More than 4,000 years ago, it was consumed by pre-Hispanic cultures along the Yucatán, including the Maya, and as far back as Olmeca civilization in spiritual ceremonies.
