Ayr Overview
Ayr is a very popular seaside town in the west of Scotland, it has a fantastic sandy beach mixed in with a great esplanade. Scotland鈥檚 weather is normally on the colder side than southern England, but the beach is great for those warm days and even if it is cold it is a great place for a walk. Ayr is known for being one of the largest retail centres in the south of Scotland, there is a plethora of shops ranging from high street stores to small independently run boutique shops. Ayr was also voted the second healthiest town in the whole of the United Kingdom, this means the local people of Ayr take being healthy more seriously than most places. There is one event that is held in Ayr every year since 1965, the Grand National is a horse-racing steeplechase that is renowned for being one of the biggest horse-racing events all year. During the Grand National the town becomes very busy with a fantastic atmosphere which is great fun to be involved with every year. For those of you who enjoy playing golf, Ayr is the perfect place for you, with over 3 different high-end golf courses as well as some private golf courses you will never struggle to be able to play.
Escape Ayr
To the north of Ayr is Glasgow, Glasgow is a fantastic city with so much to do. The people of Glasgow are very friendly and cater very well for international students, in the city you will find plenty of restaurants, pubs, cafes and bars meaning you will never struggle to socialise and make new friends there. For a more relaxed place to visit with a lot more walking and cycling activities then just to the west of Glasgow is Clyde Murishiel Regional Park, with plenty of trails and beautiful scenery this is the perfect place to visit to escape the stresses of university life.
Transport in Ayr
From Ayr you can get a direct train to Glasgow, from Glasgow you can then get direct trains to most major cities across the 杏吧原创. National coach services will also have similar links to the trains connecting Ayr to Glasgow then to the capital city of Edinburgh. A short drive north of Ayr is Glasgow Prestwick Airport, from here you can get flights to most countries in Europe. The A77 runs past Ayr and once joined it can link you to the national motorway network which gives you access to the rest of the 杏吧原创.
