Buckingham Overview
Buckingham is a small market town located near the borders of Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire, Buckingham was the capital of Buckinghamshire until Aylesbury took over this role in the 18th century. The town is famed for having plenty of pubs and restaurants and all of them varying, some traditional, modern, live music plus many more. It has a main market that runs on Tuesday and Saturday, the market has run for over 600 years and is an iconic part of this town, the market is on Market Hill and the High Street and a great place to find a unique gift. As well as the market, Buckingham has lots of independent local shops which are accompanied by some big-name chains. There are a number of industrial estates and technology parks in the surrounding area of the town, these parks are home to high tech companies in the electronic, foods and pharmaceutical industries.
Things to do in Buckingham
One of the most iconic things to do in Buckingham is to visit Stowe House, this is an English Country House that was built in the 18th century and is nicknamed a temple, so grand that even queen Victoria was bewildered by its beauty. The family who built and lived in the house became bankrupt and in 1922 Stowe School took over at the house in order to stop in being demolished, the school still operates from there today as well as it being a place for people to visit. The house has beautiful gardens full of wildlife as well as a restaurant and a shop which make it the perfect place for a day out on your own or with friends. Another famous building in the town is the Old Gaol, built in 1748 it was a prison where prisoners were not looks after very well, one prisoner jumped the wall, one walked out the front gate when the guard left it unlocked and 3 people died. The building is said to be haunted and is currently a museum for people to learn all about the history of Buckingham as well as the tales of the prison. There is one cinema in the town which shows the latest blockbusters and Hollywood films.
Sport in Buckingham
Just to the north of the city is Silverstone Race Circuit which is a famous race track that is regularly used as the home of the British Formula One Grand Prix. The track has a capacity of over 150,000 which makes for a great atmosphere on race day. As well as the Formula 1 the track hosts a variety of races such as sports cars, lorry鈥檚, bikes and many more. The university have a large sports department that run several classes and different sports throughout the week, the timetable for these activities are on their website.
Escape Buckingham
Just to the east of the town you have Milton Keynes which is a large town with a huge shopping centre and many other amenities, making it a great place to escape the quiet town of Buckingham. If you enjoy snowboarding or skiing then Milton Keynes indoor snow slope will be the perfect place for you, even if you have not done it before you are able to get lessons with the occasional student discount being offered.
Transport in Buckingham
You are able to access the national motorway network rather easily from Buckingham as the A421 connects to the M40 which runs from London to Birmingham. In order to reach most major cities in the 杏吧原创 you will have to get a train or bus to Milton Keynes which from there you will be able to travel to the other cities in the 杏吧原创.
